Sustaining Economic Exploitation of Complex Ecosystems in Computational Models of Coupled Human-Natural Networks

چکیده

Understanding ecological complexity has stymied scientists for decades. Recent elucidation of the famously coined "devious strategies stability in enduring natural systems" opened up a new field computational analyses complex networks where nonlinear dynamics many interacting species can be more realistically modeled and understood. Here, we describe first extension this to include coupled human-natural systems. This elucidates sustaining extraction biomass (e.g., fish, forests, fiber) from ecosystems that account pursue multiple goals such as maximizing economic profit, employment carbon sequestration by ecosystems. Our realistic modeling helps explain why simpler "maximum sustainable yield" bioeconomic models underpinning much resource policy leads less biomass, biodiversity than predicted those simple models. Current research directions integrated social science applying artificial intelligence, cloud computing, multiplayer online games.

Sustaining Economic Exploitation of Complex Ecosystems in Computational Models of Coupled Human-Natural Networks

Understanding ecological complexity has stymied scientists for decades. Recent elucidation of the famously coined "devious strategies for stability in enduring natural systems" has opened up a new field of computational analyses of complex ecological networks where the nonlinear dynamics of many interacting species can be more realistically mod eled and understood. Exacerbated vulnerability of coupled socio-economic risk in complex networks

The study of risk contagion in economic networks has most often focused on the financial liquidities of institutions and assets. In practice the agents in a network affect each other through social contagion, i.e., through herd behavior and the tendency to follow leaders. We study the coupled risk between social and economic contagion and find it significantly more severe than when economic ris...

Cascading Transitions in Coupled Complex Ecosystems

The Earth system is arguably one of the most complex systems in the known universe. Over 4.5 billion years it has self-organised into a state which features complex differentiated life that covers its surface and penetrates its crust. This widespread biosphere requires stability in the sense of maintenance of temperature and pressures on the surface that allow liquid water. Within this range th...

Tractable models of self-sustaining autocatalytic networks

Self-sustaining autocatalytic networks play a central role in living systems, from metabolism at the origin of life, simple RNA networks, and the modern cell, to ecology and cognition. A collectively autocatalytic network that can be sustained from an ambient food set is also referred to more formally as a ‘Reflexively Autocatalytic F-generated’ (RAF) set. In this paper, we first investigate a ...
